An Open Letter to the Executive Governor of Kano State: A Call for Justice and Action Over the Killing of Our Youths in Benue State
An Open Letter to the Executive Governor of Kano State: A Call for Justice and Action Over the Killing of Our Youths in Benue State
Your Excellency,
Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf,
Executive Governor of Kano State.
Sir,
With a heart weighed down by grief and a soul stirred by sorrow, I write to bring to your urgent attention a painful and tragic development the killing of two innocent youths from Kano State in Benue state. The news of this cruel loss has sent waves of anguish across every corner of our beloved state. We are mourning, we are in shock, and we are in desperate need of justice.
These young men were not strangers to us. They were sons of Kano, full of hopes, aspirations, and dreams like every youth born of this noble state. Their lives were filled with promise, until it was brutally and unjustly ended in a land far from home. This is more than an unfortunate event, it is a tragedy that strikes at the heart of every parent, every neighbor, and every leader who holds the sanctity of human life dear.
In this moment of collective grief, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families whose hearts have been shattered beyond words. No amount of consolation can restore what they have lost, but may they find comfort in our solidarity and shared pain. I also express profound sympathy to the entire people of Kano State and to Your Excellency's administration, for this is not only a family’s loss,it is a communal wound. Our hearts and prayers are with them, and may Almighty Allah comfort and strengthen them in this hour of unbearable sorrow.
Your Excellency, we cannot overlook the painful reality that this is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred. Only a few months ago, another heartbreaking incident involving Kano indigenes happened in Uromi, Edo State. These recurring patterns of injustice must no longer be treated as isolated events or swept under the carpet with routine condemnations. The time has come for Kano State to stand tall, not just in words, but through concrete and lawful action.
The time for reactive grief must give way to proactive justice.
Our people must feel safe not only within our borders but anywhere in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The lives of Kano state citizens cannot continue to be disregarded with impunity. In this regard, I respectfully urge Your Excellency to consider the following decisive steps:
1. Pursue immediate legal redress by initiating formal legal action against the Benue State Government and any implicated parties. This is essential to demonstrate that the lives of our citizens are protected by law, no matter where they are in the country.
2. Demand compensation for the bereaved families not as a price for life lost, but as a token of responsibility, to support those now left with pain, trauma, and economic vulnerability.
3. Seek damages for Kano State Government for the emotional distress inflicted upon the people, and for the breakdown of inter-state trust that such reckless killings have caused.
4. Establish a permanent legal and advocacy task force within the Kano State Government to monitor, investigate, and respond swiftly to any future case of unlawful killing or abuse of Kano indigenes across Nigeria.
This call is not driven by vengeance, but by a moral obligation to uphold human dignity and the rule of law. When lives are taken without consequence, injustice thrives. Let us not allow these souls to perish in silence. Their deaths must compel us to act decisively, lawfully, and honorably.
Your Excellency, I write not only as a citizen but as a voice for many whose tears are yet to dry. We believe in your leadership. We believe you will not allow this injustice to pass without challenge. The people of Kano state are watching. Nigeria is watching.
May Allah, the Most Merciful, grant the departed eternal rest, grant their families the patience to endure this heavy loss, and guide your leadership with wisdom and courage as you rise to defend the dignity of our people.
With deepest respect and highest regards,
